What are Government Funded Home Care Packages?
Home Care Packages are government-funded are packages designed to help the elderly live at home for as long as possible. There are four levels of funding, from home care package level 1 to 4. Level 1 home care packages are for basic needs, and provide $352.12 per fortnight, while at the other end, Level 4 home care packages are for higher needs, and provide $2,043.14 per fortnight in funding.

Home care packages can be used for a variety of care, services and equipment that are designed to alleviate aging related obstacles to staying at home safe. Examples include:

- gardening
- transport
- social support
- allied health
- meal preparation
- personal care
- Mobility equipment and assistive technology
- home modifications
- gym memberships
Home Care Packages are also designed to ensure you remain engaged with the community, so they can also be used on things like taxi vouchers to get you safely to your social outings.
What do Home Care Packages Cost?
Home care packages are means-tested, so self-funded retirees may be asked to contribute towards the cost of the home care package. For pensioners and part-pensioners there are no out-of-pocket expenses. Beware, some providers charge a Basic Daily Fee for all care recipients, so make sure you shop around for ones that don’t.
